Metacom Avenue Corridor Management Plan
Bristol, RI

Pare Corporation was retained by the Town of Bristol, RI to develop a corridor management plan using traffic improvements and design guidelines to improve traffic and development along the highest volume roadway in the town.  Pare teamed with a landscape architect subconsultant, Bradford Associates, and collaborated with a local steering committee and representatives from the RI Department of Transportation to develop guidelines and regulations that will define the corridor as a livable, walkable neighborhood where future development and redevelopment reflect high design standards and traffic volumes are eased through roadway safety improvements and enhancements to multimodal transportation.

Pare documented existing conditions along the corridor, conducted a traffic analysis, and reviewed three years of accident data.  The Pare Project Team completed a visual analysis, developed design guidelines, and proposed zoning amendments.  Two public workshops were held to present findings and garner feedback from the public.  Final recommendations were presented to a joint meeting of the Town Council and the Planning Board.

Funding was provided by RI Statewide Planning Program as a Challenge Grant.  This project was awarded the 2007 Smart Growth & New Urbanism Award by the RI Chapter of the American Planning Association.
