Overview

Pare Corporation, teamed with Traverse Landscape Architects, was selected by the City of Providence to design a combined softball and football synthetic turf field on a uniquely shaped tract of land in a dense urban core. Pare’s team had to work around many constraints in this densely populated area. Drainage presented a unique challenge as existing drainage from the field contributed to the local street drainage. Because the area is serviced by an extensive combined sewer system, Pare’s team worked diligently with the City, the sewer authority (Narragansett Bay Commission), and the RI Department of Environmental Management to design a subsurface drainage system that met the regulatory needs while staying within the City’s budget. project around a tight deadline (with specific season windows for the sporting events that utilize the facility) while staying within the City’s fiscal budget of $2,000,000.

The Bucklin Field park is now a recreational green amenity to be enjoyed by a wide variety of constituents, including adult softball leagues, youth football teams, several adjacent schools, and the local community center.
