Pare Corporation is working with the Town of North Smithfield to help implement a Town-wide Asset Management Program for utilities, facilities, and other assets. The public water and sewer systems are of critical need, though the Town’s ambitions extend to their buildings and facilities, pavement, sidewalks, and other infrastructure.

Pare met with members of the Town’s Asset Management Committee to identify the current stage of the Town’s Asset Management Program, steps that should be taken to advance the Program, and costs associated with that work. Pare was then hired by the Town to implement the first phase of asset management, focusing on the potable water system. The major tasks Pare is completing for this phase include field location and GIS mapping of water system assets, investigation of data collection tools for the Town’s future use, and investigation of enterprise asset management (EAM) platforms for the Town’s adoption.

To complete this assessment, Pare has established comparative evaluation criteria that considers the following major characteristics common in industry-leading EAM systems:

— Data Management
— Financial Management & Forecasting
— Work Order & Inventory Management
— Startup, Implementation, and Ongoing Maintenance Costs

Pare is assessing a number of EAM solutions at varying price points, functionality, and complexity and working with the Town to establish appropriate scoring criteria and comparative weighting for each criteria to identify the program most favorable for the Town’s implementation. Once complete, Pare will present the findings and recommendations from this study to the Town Council, Water and Sewer Department staff, and the Asset Management Committee.
