Overview

Pare was a member of the architectural team which provided design, construction documents, and construction-phase services for two new middle schools in Quincy, MA. The new 115,000-SF, 620-student Central Middle School was completed in 2014 and the new 95,700-SF, 460-student South-West Middle School was completed in 2020. Pare was the civil engineer and provided environmental, permitting, geotechnical, and traffic services.

The site design effort included layout, grading, low-impact drainage design, design of the sewer service, and other coordination of utilities. Both projects involved construction phasing plans which minimized disturbance to site operations, especially on the 5-acre South-West site where the new building went up within 15 feet of the existing school before it was demolished.

As part of the design, Pare performed a traffic impact analysis including a capacity analysis and evaluation of pedestrian safety on and around the project sites. Pare also completed Phase 1 ESAs for the projects. The South-West site also features a synthetic turf field.

Pare assisted with the preparation of the LEED documentation. Central Middle School was certified LEED Gold and South-West was certified LEED Silver.
