Overview

Pare was selected by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation to design highway Improvements to Route 4 (Colonel Rodman Highway) from Interstate 95 to Tower Hill Road (Route 1) in the Towns of East Greenwich and North Kingstown. Pare prepared an Initial Project Report (IPR) for the 4.2 miles of state highway and 0.9 miles of ramps at Division Street to develop design recommendations for highway and safety improvements. The IPR included evaluations of the roadway surface, safety analyses, guide sign inventory, capacity analyses at three signalized intersections, and coordination with the local communities and utility companies.

The final design plans and contract documents included micro-milling 2.25 inches of existing pavement and placing a new 1.5-inch layer of hot mix asphalt friction course; adjusting drainage structures; cleaning and flushing of existing drain pipes and structures, replacing guardrail and end treatments; addition of rumble strips; and replacing existing highway signs and pavement markings.
